A 1930s semi-detached house in St Albans had an old timber front door that had swollen, stuck frequently, and allowed cold air to pour into the hallway. The adjacent side window was single-glazed and draughty, detracting from the property’s kerb appeal. The goal was to install a secure, energy-efficient uPVC front door with a matching side window to enhance the entrance, improve thermal performance, and boost kerb appeal.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a matching uPVC front door and side window set tailored to the property’s classic style. The solution included:

• White uPVC front door with decorative double-glazed panels
• Matching white uPVC side window (fixed casement) to complement the door
• A-rated double glazing with argon gas fill for superior thermal efficiency
• Multi-point locking system with anti-snap cylinders and stainless steel hinge bolts
• Low-threshold cill for step-free access
• Concealed letterbox with brush draught seal
• Matching white handles and hardware for a unified finish
• Compressible foam gasket around the entire frame for airtight sealing

Installation Process

• Conducted precise measurement of the existing door and side window openings
• Removed old timber front door, frame, and side window carefully
• Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
• Inspected and prepared the structural openings, lintel, and sub-cill
• Installed new uPVC door frame and side window frame using galvanised fixings and expanding foam
• Hung the door slab on stainless steel hinges
• Fitted the double-glazed decorative panels into the door and side window
• Installed multi-point locking mechanism and tested all locks and keys
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for full weatherproofing
• Adjusted hinges for perfect alignment and smooth closing action
