Fitting of Schüco Windows

A Victorian terraced house in East Ham underwent a full refurbishment and loft conversion to create additional living space. The homeowners wanted a premium window solution that would complement the property’s period character while delivering modern performance. The goal was to install black Schüco windows throughout the existing property and the new loft conversion to achieve a cohesive, contemporary look with superior thermal efficiency, noise reduction, and security.

Our Solution

We supplied and installedSchüco AWS 70 aluminium windows in black (RAL 9005) across the entire property, including the loft conversion. The solution included:

Main House (Refurbishment):

• Black Schüco casement windows with concealed friction hinges
• Traditional sliding sash-style windows for the front elevation to retain period charm
• Tilt-and-turn windows for first-floor bedrooms for safe ventilation
• Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill

Loft Conversion:

• Large fixed picture windows to maximise light and skyline views
• Side-hung casement windows for ventilation at height
• Roof windows integrated into the conversion design

All Windows Included:

• Thermally broken profiles to eliminate cold bridging and condensation
• Schüco multi-point locking mechanisms with SecuTech handles
• Acoustic glazing for front-facing rooms to reduce street noise
• Matching black sills, trims, and hardware for a seamless finish

Installation Process

• Carried out full site survey with laser measurements of all existing and new openings
• Coordinated with the refurbishment and loft conversion build schedule
• Removed old timber and uPVC windows from the main house carefully
• Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
• Prepared openings in the loft conversion as the build progressed
• Installed steel reinforcement where required for larger window spans
• Lifted black Schüco window frames into position using precision packers
• Mechanically fixed all frames to existing masonry and new timber studwork
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into every window frame
• Installed sliding sash mechanisms where specified and tested operation
• Adjusted all casement, tilt-and-turn, and sash hinges for smooth operation
• Spray-foamed all perimeter gaps and applied internal/external silicone seals
• Tested all locks, handles, and security features
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, and surrounding areas
