A modern apartment in Borehamwood required a stylish and practical glazing solution for its balcony area. The existing doors and windows were outdated, offered little privacy, and failed to maximise the outdoor views. The homeowners wanted a versatile system that would flood the interior with natural light while providing effective light control and privacy when needed. The goal was to install bi-fold doors and matching windows with integrated blinds in a dual-tone finish to create a seamless, functional connection to the balcony.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a bespoke aluminium bi-fold door and window system featuring integrated blinds for effortless light and privacy control. The solution included:

Bi-Fold Doors:

• Multi-panel aluminium bi-fold door providing full-width balcony access
• Slim-profile frames to maximise views and natural light
• Bottom-mounted stainless steel rollers for smooth, quiet folding operation

Matching Windows:

• Aluminium casement windows flanking the bi-fold doors for balanced ventilation
• Matching slim-profile frames for a cohesive appearance

Integrated Blinds:

• Blinds sealed between the glass panes (within the double-glazed unit)
• Controlled via a discreet magnetic slider on the glass surface or remote control
• Elimination of dangling cords or chains for a clean, child-safe finish
• No external dust or damage, as blinds are fully protected within the sealed unit
• Simple operation without interfering with the folding mechanism

All Elements Included:

• Thermally broken aluminium profiles to prevent heat loss and condensation
• Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill for energy efficiency
• Multi-point locking systems for enhanced security
• Low-threshold cill for step-free balcony access
• Dual-tone powder-coated finish: light grey (RAL 7035) externally and white (RAL 9010) internally
• Matching handles and hardware for a unified finish

Installation Process

• Conducted precise laser measurement of the balcony openings
• Coordinated with the homeowners to finalise door configuration, window placement, and blind selection
• Removed existing doors and windows carefully to preserve surrounding finishes
• Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
• Inspected and prepared the structural openings, lintels, and sills
• Installed steel reinforcement where required for the aluminium system
• Lifted aluminium bi-fold door frame into position using precision packers
• Lifted aluminium window frames into position alongside the door
• Mechanically fixed all frames to the structure ensuring zero movement
• Hung each door panel and adjusted bottom rollers for perfect alignment
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units (with integrated blinds pre-installed between the panes) into all doors and windows
• Installed multi-point locking mechanisms and tested all locks
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight finish
• Tested folding and sliding operation across all panels multiple times
• Demonstrated integrated blind operation to the homeowners
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, tracks, and surrounding areas
