A semi-detached family home in Rickmansworth underwent a full refurbishment, with the rear living space identified as a key area for improvement. The existing patio doors were outdated, draughty, and failed to connect the interior with the garden. The homeowners wanted a premium, high-performance solution that would maximise natural light, provide effortless garden access, and complement the property’s refreshed aesthetic. The goal was to install a Schüco patio door system to transform the living space, improve thermal efficiency, and add lasting value to the home.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a Schüco ASS 70 casement patio door system tailored to the refurbished opening. The Schüco ASS 70 is a thermally insulated aluminium casement door system that impresses with narrow face widths, outstanding weathertightness, and exceptional durability. The solution included:

• Schüco ASS 70 casement patio door with slim-profile aluminium frames for clean, modern sightlines and unobstructed garden views
• Multi-panel configuration (customised to the opening) with vent heights of up to 3.0 metres
• Thermally broken profiles achieving excellent thermal insulation (Uf values from 1.6 W/(m²K) as standard) for energy efficiency and condensation control
• High-performance double glazing with low-E coating and argon gas fill for superior thermal and acoustic performance
• Schüco multi-point locking system with burglar resistance up to RC2 level for enhanced security
• Concealed stainless steel roller system for smooth, quiet casement operation
• Low-threshold track for step-free garden access
• Powder-coated finish in a colour of the homeowners’ choice to complement the property’s refurbished exterior
• Drop-down weather seals for superior draught protection and weathertightness

Installation Process

• Conducted a detailed site survey with precision laser measurement of the existing opening
• Coordinated with the homeowners to finalise the panel configuration, colour selection, and hardware choices
• Removed the old patio doors and frame carefully to preserve surrounding brickwork and internal finishes
• Inspected and prepared the structural opening, lintel, and sub-cill
• Installed steel reinforcement where required to support the casement system
• Lifted the Schüco ASS 70 door frame into position using precision packers
• Mechanically fixed the frame to the structure ensuring zero movement
• Fitted the fixed glazed panel(s) into position
• Hung the casement door panels onto the roller mechanism
• Adjusted rollers for smooth, effortless casement operation
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into all casement panels
• Installed the Schüco multi-point locking mechanism and tested all locks
• Spray-foamed all perimeter gaps with high-expansion insulation foam
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for an airtight, watertight finish
• Adjusted all handles and locking mechanisms for smooth operation
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, tracks, and surrounding areas
