Project Overview
A detached family home in Barnet required a striking new entrance to replace an old, narrow timber door that felt unwelcoming and insecure. The homeowners wanted a wider, more dramatic entrance that would allow more natural light into the hallway while complementing the property’s traditional exterior. The goal was to install a pair of aluminium double doors in brown to enhance kerb appeal, improve security, and provide a modern yet classic feel to the property’s entrance.
Our Solution
We supplied and installed a bespoke aluminium double door system tailored to the property’s front elevation. The solution included:
- Pair of side-hung aluminium doors (active and passive leaves) in brown (RAL 8017 – Chocolate Brown)
- Slim-profile aluminium frames for maximum glass area and clean sightlines
- Thermally broken profiles to prevent heat loss and condensation
- Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill
- Multi-point locking system on the active door leaf with anti-snap cylinders
- Stainless steel hinges with adjustable tension
- Low-threshold cill for step-free access
- Matching brown handles and hardware for a unified finish
- Concealed drop-down weather seals for superior draught protection
Installation Process
- Conducted precise laser measurement of the existing door opening
- Removed old timber door and frame carefully
- Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
- Widened the opening where required to accommodate double doors
- Installed steel support lintel above the new opening
- Lifted aluminium double door frame into position using precision packers
- Mechanically fixed the frame to the structure ensuring zero movement
- Hung both door leaves on stainless steel hinges
- Fitted double-glazed sealed units into both doors
- Installed multi-point locking mechanism on the active leaf
- Fitted flush bolts to the passive leaf (top and bottom)
- Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight finish
- Adjusted hinges for perfect alignment and smooth closing action
- Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, handles, and surrounding area
