Bi-Fold Door Installation

A detached family home in Oxhey had recently completed a rear extension, but the existing French doors failed to make the most of the garden views. The homeowners wanted a dramatic, floor-to-ceiling glazing solution that would blur the line between indoors and out. The goal was to install an aluminium bi-fold door to maximise natural light, provide effortless garden access, and add a sleek, modern focal point to the living area.

We supplied and installed a premium aluminium bi-fold door system tailored to the extension opening. The solution included:

• Bottom-mounted stainless steel rollers for smooth, quiet folding operation
• Thermally broken profiles for energy efficiency and condensation control
• Low-threshold cill for step-free garden access
• Multi-point locking system with high-security handles
• Double glazing with low-E coating and argon gas fill
• Powder-coated finish in dark grey (RAL 7016) to complement the extension’s exterior
• Concealed drop-down seals for superior weatherproofing

Installation Process

• Conducted precise laser measurement of the extension opening
• Checked structural lintel and floor levels for proper alignment
• Removed existing French doors and prepared the opening
• Installed steel reinforcement where required for the bi-fold system
• Lifted aluminium bi-fold door frame into position using precision packers
• Mechanically fixed the frame to the structure ensuring zero movement
• Hung each door panel and adjusted bottom rollers for perfect alignment
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into all four panels
• Installed multi-point locking mechanism and tested all locking points
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight finish
• Tested folding and sliding operation across all panels multiple times
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, tracks, frames, and surrounding areas
