Composite Door Installation

A charming period property in the historic market town of Wendover required a new front door to replace an old, weathered timber door that had warped, allowed draughts, and detracted from the home’s kerb appeal. The homeowners wanted a secure, energy-efficient, and low-maintenance solution that would preserve the property’s traditional character. The goal was to install a composite door in a brown wood-effect finish with half-glazed panels to create a warm, inviting entrance that complements the property’s period architecture while delivering modern thermal performance and security.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a premium composite front door with a realistic wood-effect finish and half-glazed design. Composite doors are constructed with multiple layers, making them extremely strong while providing superior insulation compared to single-layer doors. The solution included:

• High-density polyurethane foam core for excellent insulation and structural rigidity
• Glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) outer skin with a realistic brown wood-effect finish, resistant to fading, warping, cracking, and swelling
• Half-glazed design with a decorative double-glazed upper panel to flood the hallway with natural light
• Traditional panel design on the lower half to retain the property’s period character
• Internal finish in white (RAL 9010) to match the hallway decor
• Five-point multi-point locking system with anti-snap cylinders for enhanced security
• Stainless steel hinges and a concealed letterbox with brush draught seal
• Matching brown wood-effect handles and hardware externally
• White handles and hardware internally for a cohesive finish
• Compressible foam gasket around the entire frame for airtight sealing
• Low-maintenance finish that will not require painting or staining over time

Installation Process

• Conducted precise laser measurement of the existing door opening
• Removed the old timber front door and frame carefully to preserve surrounding brickwork and internal decoration
• Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
• Inspected and prepared the structural opening, lintel, and sub-cill, ensuring the aperture was level and square for proper installation
• Installed the new composite door frame using galvanised fixings and expanding foam
• Positioned the composite door slab using packers at all fixing points for perfect alignment
• Hung the door slab on stainless steel hinges and adjusted for smooth operation
• Fitted the half-glazed double-glazed decorative panel into the upper section of the door
• Installed the five-point multi-point locking mechanism and tested all locks and keys
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for full weatherproofing
• Adjusted hinges for perfect alignment and smooth closing action
• Completed thorough clean of door, frame, glass, handles, and surrounding area
