Fitting uPVC Sash Windows

A period terraced house in Cricklewood still featured its original timber sash windows, which had become draughty, difficult to open, and prone to condensation. The single-glazed panes also allowed significant noise penetration from the nearby A5. The goal was to install uPVC sash windows that preserved the traditional character of the property while delivering modern thermal efficiency, noise reduction, and security.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed heritage-style white uPVC sash windows throughout the front and rear elevations of the terraced house. The solution included:

• Traditional sliding sash design with mechanical welded joints for authentic appearance
• A-rated double glazing with acoustic performance for road noise reduction
• Tilt-in functionality for safe and easy cleaning of upper sashes
• Spiral balances for smooth, weight-free sliding operation
• Multi-point locking system with security restrictors
• Timber-effect foil finish on internal faces to match original period detailing
• Concealed trickle vents within the head rail for compliant ventilation
• Matching uPVC sill and architrave profiles for seamless integration

Installation Process

• Carried out detailed pre-installation survey and measured each window opening
• Removed original timber sash windows carefully to preserve brickwork and internal plaster
• Disposed of old frames, weights, and glass responsibly
• Inspected and repaired existing box frames where necessary
• Installed new uPVC sash window frames using galvanised fixings and expanding foam
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into both upper and lower sashes
• Attached spiral balances and tested smooth sliding operation
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for weatherproofing
• Adjusted all locking mechanisms, restrictors, and tilt-in functions
• Completed thorough clean of glass, frames, sills, and surrounding areas
