Project Overview
A large detached family home in Barnet had recently completed a rear extension to create an open-plan kitchen and dining area. The existing patio door was outdated and failed to connect the new space with the garden. The homeowners wanted a premium sliding door solution that would maximise natural light, provide effortless garden access, and deliver exceptional thermal performance. The goal was to install a Schüco sliding door in black to serve as the focal point of the new extension.
Our Solution
We supplied and installed a Schüco ASS 70 sliding door system in matt black (RAL 9005) tailored to the extension opening. The solution included:
- Schüco ASS 70 sliding door with slim-profile aluminium frames for clean, minimalist sightlines
- Three-panel configuration with one fixed panel and two sliding panels
- Thermally broken profiles to eliminate cold bridging and meet building regulations
- Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill
- High-security multi-point locking system with SecuTech handle technology
- Finger-safe interlock between sliding panels for added safety
- Low-threshold track for step-free garden access
- Concealed stainless steel roller system for smooth, quiet operation
- Matching black handles and hardware for a unified finish
- Drop-down weather seals for superior draught protection
Installation Process
- Conducted precise laser measurement of the extension opening
- Coordinated with the extension build schedule to ensure timely installation
- Installed steel reinforcement lintel above the sliding door opening
- Lifted Schüco ASS 70 sliding door frame into position using precision packers
- Mechanically fixed the frame to the new masonry and timber studwork
- Fitted the fixed glazed panel into position
- Hung the sliding door panels onto the roller mechanism
- Adjusted rollers for smooth, effortless sliding operation
- Fitted double-glazed sealed units into the sliding panels
- Installed Schüco multi-point locking mechanism and tested all locking points
- Spray-foamed all perimeter gaps with high-expansion insulation foam
- Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight finish
- Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, tracks, and surrounding area
