Project Overview
A ground-floor apartment in Chesham required a replacement patio door and an adjacent side window. The existing sliding patio door was old, difficult to operate, and let in draughts, while the side window was single-glazed and rotting. The goal was to install a modern, secure, and energy-efficient white uPVC patio door with a matching side window to improve thermal performance, security, and the overall appearance of the apartment’s rear elevation.
Our Solution
We supplied and installed a matching white uPVC patio door and side window set tailored to the apartment’s ground-floor layout. The solution included:
- White uPVC casement patio door (French door style) with side-hung opening panels
- Matching white uPVC side window (fixed or casement) positioned next to the door
- A-rated double glazing with argon gas fill and low-E coating for superior thermal efficiency
- Multi-point locking system on the active door leaf with anti-snap cylinders
- Stainless steel friction hinges on the door and window for smooth operation
- Low-threshold cill for step-free garden access
- Trickle vent on the window to reduce condensation
- Matching white handles, sills, and hardware for a cohesive finish
- Reinforced frames for added strength and security (ground-floor requirement)
Installation Process
- Conducted precise laser measurement of the existing door and window openings
- Removed old sliding patio door and side window carefully
- Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
- Inspected and prepared the structural openings, lintels, and sills
- Installed new uPVC door frame and side window frame using galvanised fixings and expanding foam
- Hung both casement door panels on stainless steel hinges
- Fitted the side window frame and installed the sealed unit
- Fitted double-glazed sealed units into both door panels
- Installed multi-point locking mechanism on the active door leaf
- Applied internal and external silicone seals for full weatherproofing
- Adjusted hinges for perfect alignment and smooth closing action
- Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, handles, and surrounding area
