Lean To Glass Roof & Windows Installation

A detached family home in Stanmore had a rear extension with a solid polycarbonate lean-to roof that had yellowed, leaked, and made the kitchen and dining area feel dark and cold. The existing sliding patio door also failed to connect the space properly with the garden. The goal was to install a sleek glass roof and aluminium bi-fold windows to flood the extension with natural light, create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, and transform the space into a bright, modern living area.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a premium lean-to glass roof system paired with aluminium bi-fold windows tailored to the extension. The solution included:

Lean-to Glass Roof:

• Thermally broken aluminium framework for energy efficiency and condensation control
• Double-glazed roof panels with low-E coating and argon gas fill
• Self-cleaning glass option for reduced maintenance
• Integrated gutter system to manage rainwater run-off
• White powder-coated finish to match the interior ceiling

Aluminium Bi-Fold Windows:

• Three-panel aluminium bi-fold window system with slim profiles
• Bottom-mounted stainless steel rollers for smooth, quiet folding operation
• Thermally broken profiles for energy efficiency
• Multi-point locking system with high-security handles
• Powder-coated finish in dark grey (RAL 7016) to complement the exterior
• Low-threshold cill for step-free garden access

Installation Process

• Conducted site survey and assessed the existing extension structure
• Removed old polycarbonate roof sheets and sliding patio door
• Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
• Inspected and repaired existing roof timbers and wall plates
• Installed aluminium perimeter frame and support beams for the glass roof
• Fitted the lean-to glass roof frame and secured to existing wall plates
• Lifted double-glazed roof panels into position and sealed all joints
• Installed integrated gutter system and downpipes
• Prepared the door opening and installed bi-fold window frame
• Hung each bi-fold panel and adjusted bottom rollers for perfect alignment
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into all bi-fold panels
• Installed multi-point locking mechanism and tested all locking points
• Applied internal and external silicone seals throughout
• Completed internal plastering around the roof perimeter
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, tracks, frames, and surrounding areas
