Patio French Door Installation

A ground-floor period conversion flat in Maida Vale required a new patio door to replace an old, draughty sliding door that had become difficult to operate and insecure. The homeowners wanted a stylish, secure, and energy-efficient solution that would complement the property’s Victorian character while providing easy garden access. The goal was to install a French patio door to enhance the flat’s rear elevation, improve thermal performance, and create a seamless connection to the garden.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a white uPVC French patio door tailored to the property’s period style. The solution included:

• White uPVC French door with two side-hung opening panels
• A-rated double glazing with argon gas fill and low-E coating
• Multi-point locking system on the active door leaf
• Stainless steel friction hinges for smooth, controlled opening
• Low-threshold cill for step-free garden access
• Georgian bar inserts to retain the Victorian character
• Matching white handles and hardware for a cohesive finish
• Low-maintenance uPVC profiles that will not warp or yellow

Installation Process

• Conducted precise laser measurement of the existing door opening
• Removed old sliding patio door carefully
• Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
• Inspected and prepared the structural opening, lintel, and sub-cill
• Installed new uPVC French door frame using galvanised fixings and expanding foam
• Hung both door panels on stainless steel friction hinges
• Tested opening and closing operation and adjusted hinges as needed
• Installed double-glazed sealed units with Georgian bars into both door panels
• Fitted multi-point locking mechanism and tested all locks
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for full weatherproofing
• Completed thorough clean of glass, frames, handles, and surrounding area
