Schüco Aluminium Doors Installation

A large extension to a detached house in Bedmond created an expansive open-plan kitchen and living area. The homeowners wanted a premium glazing solution to connect the new space with the rear garden while making a bold architectural statement. The goal was to install Schüco aluminium doors in black, combining French doors and casement patio doors, to maximise natural light, provide flexible access, and deliver exceptional thermal performance and security.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a bespoke Schüco AWS 70 aluminium door system in matt black (RAL 9005) featuring a combination of French and casement patio doors. The solution included:

French Doors:

• Pair of side-hung French doors (active and passive leaves) for the main garden access point
• Fully glazed panels for uninterrupted garden views
• Multi-point locking system on the active leaf with SecuTech handle technology
• Flush bolts fitted to the passive leaf (top and bottom)

Casement Patio Doors:

• Large casement patio door (single side-hung leaf) for secondary access
• Fully glazed panel matching the French door design
• Heavy-duty stainless steel hinges with adjustable tension

All Doors Included:

• Schüco AWS 70 slim-profile aluminium frames in matt black (RAL 9005)
• Thermally broken profiles to eliminate cold bridging and condensation
• Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill
• Low-threshold cills for step-free garden access
• Concealed drop-down weather seals for superior draught protection
• Matching black handles and hardware for a unified finish

Installation Process

• Conducted precise laser measurement of all door openings in the new extension
• Coordinated with the extension build schedule to ensure timely installation
• Installed steel reinforcement lintels above all door openings
• Lifted Schüco AWS 70 door frames into position using precision packers
• Mechanically fixed all frames to the new masonry and timber studwork
• Hung French door leaves on stainless steel hinges
• Hung casement patio door leaf on stainless steel hinges
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into all door panels
• Installed multi-point locking mechanisms on active leaves
• Fitted flush bolts to passive French door leaf
• Spray-foamed all perimeter gaps with high-expansion insulation foam
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight finish
• Adjusted all hinges for perfect alignment and smooth closing action
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, handles, and surrounding areas
