Schüco Bi-Fold Doors & Windows

A large detached family home in Watford had recently completed a rear extension to create an open-plan kitchen and living area. The homeowners wanted a premium, cohesive glazing solution that would maximise natural light, provide seamless garden access, and deliver exceptional thermal performance. The goal was to install Schüco bi-fold doors and matching windows in matt black (RAL 9005) to create a striking, contemporary aesthetic throughout the new space.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a bespoke Schüco ASS 70 BI bi-fold door system and Schüco AWS 70 windows in matt black (RAL 9005) . The solution included:

Bi-Fold Doors:

• Four-panel Schüco bi-fold door with ultra-slim aluminium profiles
• Bottom-mounted stainless steel rollers for whisper-quiet, effortless operation
• Thermally broken profiles to eliminate cold bridging
• Low-threshold cill for step-free garden access
• Schüco multi-point locking system with SecuTech handle technology
• Double glazing with low-E coating and argon gas fill
• Concealed drop-down seals for superior weatherproofing

Matching Windows:

• Schüco AWS 70 casement windows flanking the bi-fold doors
• Slim-profile frames to match the bi-fold design
• Side-hung openings with concealed friction hinges
• Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill
• Multi-point locking mechanisms with SecuTech handles
• Matching black finish throughout

Installation Process

• Carried out full site survey with laser measurements of all openings
• Coordinated with the extension build schedule to ensure timely installation
• Installed steel reinforcement lintels above all openings
• Lifted Schüco bi-fold door frame into position using precision packers
• Lifted Schüco window frames into position alongside the doors
• Mechanically fixed all frames to the new masonry and timber studwork
• Hung each bi-fold door panel and adjusted bottom rollers for perfect alignment
• Installed window frames and fitted double-glazed sealed units
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into all bi-fold panels
• Installed Schüco multi-point locking mechanisms and tested all locks
• Spray-foamed all perimeter gaps with high-expansion insulation foam
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight finish
• Tested folding operation across all panels multiple times
• Adjusted all window hinges and handles for smooth operation
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, tracks, frames, and surrounding areas
