Schüco Glazing Patio Door

A period conversion flat in Haringey required a new patio door to provide direct access to a private terrace. The existing door was old, draughty, and inefficient, failing to connect the interior living space with the outdoors. The residents wanted a premium, fully glazed solution that would maximise natural light, offer secure terrace access, and enhance the flat’s contemporary aesthetic. The goal was to install a Schüco aluminium glazing patio door to create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow while delivering exceptional thermal performance and security.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a Schüco AWS 70 patio door (casement style) with full glazing, tailored to the terrace opening. The solution included:

• Schüco AWS 70 slim-profile aluminium frames for maximum glass area and unobstructed terrace views
• Fully glazed double doors with two side-hung opening panels (active and passive leaves)
• Thermally broken profiles to prevent heat loss and eliminate condensation
• Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill for superior thermal efficiency
• Schüco multi-point locking system on the active leaf with SecuTech handle technology (RC2 security rating)
• Heavy-duty stainless steel friction hinges for smooth, controlled operation
• Low-threshold cill for step-free terrace access
• Powder-coated finish in anthracite grey (RAL 7016) to complement the flat’s interior and exterior
• Concealed drop-down weather seals for superior draught protection
• Matching handles and hardware for a unified finish

Installation Process

• Conducted precise laser measurement of the existing door opening
• Removed old patio door and frame carefully to preserve surrounding brickwork and internal finishes
• Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
• Inspected and prepared the structural opening, lintel, and sub-cill
• Installed steel reinforcement where required for the Schüco system
• Lifted Schüco AWS 70 door frame into position using precision packers
• Mechanically fixed the frame to the structure ensuring zero movement
• Hung both door panels on stainless steel friction hinges
• Fitted fully glazed double-glazed sealed units into both door panels
• Installed Schüco multi-point locking mechanism on the active leaf
• Fitted flush bolts to the passive leaf (top and bottom)
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight finish
• Adjusted hinges for perfect alignment and smooth closing action
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, handles, and surrounding area
