Project Overview
A contemporary family home in Marlow had an outdated sliding patio door that failed to connect the open-plan living space with the garden. The homeowners wanted a premium, fully glazed solution that would maximise natural light and create a seamless indoor-outdoor transition. The goal was to install a Schüco casement patio door in black that would offer exceptional thermal performance, robust security, and a sleek, modern aesthetic.
Our Solution
We supplied and installed a Schüco AWS 70 casement patio door (French door style) with fully glazed panels. The solution included:
- Schüco AWS 70 slim-profile aluminium frames in matt black (RAL 9005) for a bold, contemporary look
- Fully glazed casement door with side-hung opening panels (active and passive leaves)
- Floor-to-ceiling double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill
- Thermally broken profiles to eliminate cold bridging and condensation
- Schüco multi-point locking system with SecuTech handle technology (RC2 security rating)
- Heavy-duty stainless steel hinges with adjustable tension
- Low-threshold cill for step-free garden access
- Concealed drop-down weather seals for superior draught protection
- Matching black handles and hardware for a unified finish
- Slimline frames to maximise glass area and garden views
Installation Process
- Conducted precise laser measurement of the existing patio door opening
- Removed old sliding patio door carefully
- Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
- Inspected and prepared the structural opening, lintel, and sub-cill
- Installed steel reinforcement where required for the Schüco system
- Lifted Schüco AWS 70 door frame into position using precision packers
- Mechanically fixed the frame to the structure ensuring zero movement
- Hung both casement door leaves on stainless steel hinges
- Fitted fully glazed double-glazed sealed units into both door leaves
- Installed Schüco multi-point locking mechanism on the active leaf
- Fitted flush bolts to the passive leaf (top and bottom)
- Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight finish
- Adjusted hinges for perfect alignment and smooth closing action
- Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, handles, and surrounding area
