Project Overview
A Victorian terraced house in Cricklewoodrequired a combined upgrade of its front entrance and windows. The existing timber front door had swollen and stuck repeatedly, while the original sash-style windows were draughty, single-glazed, and difficult to operate. The owners wanted a cohesive, low-maintenance solution that would improve security and thermal comfort without stripping away the property’s period character. The goal was to install a white uPVC front door and matching uPVC windows across the front and rear elevations, creating a unified, energy-efficient finish.
Our Solution
We supplied and installed a matching white uPVC front door and double-glazed window package tailored to the terraced property. The solution included:
Front Door:
- White uPVC front door with decorative obscured double-glazed panels
- Multi-point locking system with anti-snap cylinder and stainless steel hinge bolts
- Low-threshold cill for step-free access
- Concealed letter plate with brush draught seal
- Matching white handles and hardware
Windows:
- White uPVC casement windows with side-hung openings and concealed friction hinges
- A-rated double glazing with argon gas fill and low-E coating
- Acoustic-enhanced glass to front-facing rooms to reduce street noise
- Multi-point locking systems with anti-snap cylinders
- Trickle vents for compliant background ventilation
- Georgian bar inserts to the front elevation to retain period character
- Reinforced frames for strength and security
Installation Process
- Carried out a detailed pre-installation survey with laser measurements of the door and every window opening
- Confirmed door style, glazing options, and bar detailing with the owners
- Protected internal floors, furnishings, and hallway finishes before work began
- Removed the old front door and windows carefully to preserve brickwork and internal plaster
- Disposed of all old frames, glass, and door hardware responsibly
- Inspected and prepared the structural opening, lintel, sub-cill, reveals, and sills
- Installed the new uPVC door frame using galvanised fixings and expanding foam
- Hung the door slab on stainless steel hinges and adjusted for smooth closing
- Installed new uPVC window frames using galvanised fixings and expanding foam
- Fitted double-glazed sealed units into the door and all window frames
- Installed and tested multi-point locking systems on the door and every window
- Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight weatherproofing
- Adjusted all hinges, handles, and locking points for reliable operation
- Completed a thorough clean of glass, frames, door furniture, and surrounding areas
- Conducted a final walkthrough with the owners to confirm satisfaction
