Windows & Sliding Doors Installation

A substantial residential project in the picturesque Chilterns town of Wendover involved both a significant property extension and a standalone summer house. The homeowners wanted a premium, unified glazing solution that would deliver exceptional thermal performance, flood both structures with natural light, and create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The goal was to install a comprehensive Schüco aluminium system—combining windows, entrance doors, and sliding doors—across both the new extension and the summer house to achieve a cohesive, contemporary aesthetic and year-round comfort.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a bespoke Schüco aluminium system tailored to both the extension and the summer house. Schüco systems are renowned for their German engineering, slim profiles, and outstanding thermal insulation. The solution included:

Property Extension:

• Schüco AWS 70 windows with a 70mm basic depth and excellent thermal insulation (Uf values from 1.6 W/(m²K)), available in casement and tilt-and-turn configurations
• Schüco entrance door system (ADS 70 or AD UP 90) with multi-point locking, anti-bump cylinders, and burglar-resistant hardware
• Schüco ASS 70 sliding doors with slim 48mm profiles, vent weights up to 400kg, and U-values as low as 1.3 W/(m²K) for seamless garden access

Summer House:

• Matching Schüco AWS 70 windows to maintain design consistency
• Schüco sliding or bi-fold doors to open the summer house fully to the garden
• Thermally broken profiles throughout to eliminate cold bridging and condensation
• Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill for superior energy efficiency
• Powder-coated finish in a colour of the homeowners’ choice to complement both structures
• Matching handles and hardware for a unified aesthetic across both buildings

Installation Process

• Conducted detailed site surveys with laser measurements of all openings in both the extension and summer house
• Coordinated with the main build schedule to ensure timely installation across both structures
• Removed temporary boarding and prepared all structural openings
• Installed steel reinforcement lintels where required for larger spans in the extension
• Lifted Schüco AWS 70 window frames into position using precision packers
• Installed the Schüco entrance door frame and hung the door slab on heavy-duty stainless steel hinges
• Assembled and installed Schüco ASS 70 sliding door frames, hanging sliding panels and adjusting rollers for smooth, quiet operation
• Mechanically fixed all frames to the new masonry and timber studwork ensuring zero movement
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into all windows, doors, and sliding door panels
• Installed multi-point locking mechanisms on all doors and tested every lock
• Spray-foamed all perimeter gaps with high-expansion insulation foam
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for airtight, watertight finish
• Adjusted all hinges, handles, sliding mechanisms, and locking systems for smooth operation
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, tracks, and surrounding areas across both structures
