Sliding Doors Installation

A substantial rear extension was added to a family home in the historic market town of Amersham, creating a large open-plan kitchen and living area. The homeowners wanted the new space to connect seamlessly with the garden, maximising natural light and providing effortless outdoor access. The goal was to install a high-performance aluminium sliding door system that would serve as the centrepiece of the extension, offering unobstructed views, superior thermal efficiency, and a sleek, contemporary aesthetic to complement the property’s Georgian-inspired architecture.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a bespoke aluminium sliding door system tailored to the extension opening, designed to span openings of over 6 metres. The solution included:

• Multi-panel aluminium sliding door with ultra-slim profiles for minimal sightlines and uninterrupted garden views
• Thermally broken aluminium frames to prevent heat loss, eliminate condensation, and achieve excellent thermal insulation (U-values as low as 1.3 W/(m²K))
• High-performance double glazing with low-E coating and argon gas fill for superior energy efficiency and acoustic performance
• Concealed stainless steel roller system with smooth, quiet operation and integrated anti-lift security
• Low-threshold track with a flush cill detail for step-free garden access
• Multi-point locking system for enhanced security and peace of mind
• Powder-coated finish in a RAL colour of the homeowners’ choice to complement the extension’s exterior
• Drop-down weather seals for superior draught protection and weathertightness

Installation Process

• Conducted a detailed site survey with precision laser measurement of the extension opening
• Coordinated with the build schedule to ensure seamless integration with the extension construction
• Installed structural steel support above the opening to accommodate the sliding system
• Lifted the aluminium sliding door frame into position using precision packers
• Mechanically fixed the frame to the new masonry and timber studwork, ensuring zero movement
• Fitted the fixed glazed panel(s) into position
• Hung the sliding door panels onto the roller mechanism and adjusted rollers for smooth, effortless operation
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into all sliding panels
• Installed the multi-point locking mechanism and tested all locks
• Spray-foamed all perimeter gaps with high-expansion insulation foam
• Applied internal and external silicone seals for an airtight, watertight finish
• Adjusted all handles and locking mechanisms for smooth operation
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, tracks, and surrounding areas
