Project Overview
A tennis club in West Hampstead required a new sliding patio door to replace an ageing aluminium unit that had become difficult to operate, draughty, and visually tired. The door serves a high-traffic social area linking the clubhouse to an outdoor seating and viewing terrace, so reliability, ease of use, and security were paramount. The goal was to install a commercial-grade aluminium sliding patio door in grey that would withstand daily club use, improve thermal comfort, enhance security, and present a smart, modern appearance to members and visitors.
Our Solution
We supplied and installed a commercial-grade aluminium sliding patio door in grey (RAL 7016) tailored to the clubhouse opening. The specification was chosen for durability, smooth operation, and low maintenance in a busy commercial environment. The solution included:
- Heavy-duty aluminium sliding door system with slim-profile frames for clear terrace views
- Powder-coated grey finish for a contemporary, hardwearing appearance
- Thermally broken profiles to reduce heat loss and condensation in the clubhouse
- Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill for improved energy efficiency
- Commercial multi-point locking with anti-snap cylinders and robust handles
- Concealed stainless steel roller system rated for frequent daily operation
- Low-threshold track for step-free access, helping with accessibility and trolley movement
- Toughened safety glass in both sliding and fixed panels
- Matching grey hardware and weather seals for a cohesive, weathertight finish
Installation Process
-
- Conducted a site survey with precision laser measurements of the existing door opening
- Agreed access arrangements and working hours with the club to minimise disruption to members and events
- Removed the old aluminium sliding door and frame carefully
- Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
- Inspected and prepared the structural opening, lintel, and sub-cill
- Installed steel reinforcement where required to support the commercial sliding system
- Lifted the grey aluminium door frame into position using precision packers and laser levels
- Mechanically fixed the frame to the structure, ensuring zero movement
- Fitted the fixed glazed panel and hung the sliding panel on the roller mechanism
- Adjusted rollers for smooth, effortless operation under frequent use
- Installed toughened double-glazed sealed units into all panels
- Fitted and tested the commercial multi-point locking system
- Applied internal and external silicone seals for an airtight, watertight finish
- Adjusted handles, tracks, and locking points for reliable daily operation
- Completed thorough clean of glass, frames, tracks, and surrounding areas
- Demonstrated operation and maintenance to the club representative
