A Victorian terraced house in Wandsworth had a rear extension with a solid polycarbonate lean-to roof that had yellowed, leaked, and made the kitchen feel dark and cold. The homeowners wanted to replace it with a sleek glass roof to flood the space with natural light and improve thermal performance. The goal was to install a lean-to glass roof that would complement the period property while creating a bright, comfortable, and modern living space.
Our Solution
We supplied and installed a premium lean-to glass roof system designed for the existing extension. The solution included:
- Thermally broken aluminium framework for energy efficiency and condensation control
- Double-glazed roof panels with low-E coating and argon gas fill
- Self-cleaning glass option for reduced maintenance
- Integrated gutter system to manage rainwater run-off
- White powder-coated finish to match the existing window frames
- Concealed LED lighting track integrated into the framework
- Plastered internal reveals for a clean, finished look
Installation Process
- Conducted site survey and assessed the existing extension structure
- Removed old yellowed polycarbonate roof sheets carefully
- Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
- Inspected and repaired existing roof timbers and wall plates where necessary
- Installed aluminium perimeter frame and support beams
- Fitted the lean-to glass roof frame and secured to existing wall plates
- Lifted double-glazed roof panels into position
- Sealed all glass-to-glass and glass-to-frame joints with silicone
- Installed integrated gutter system and downpipes
- Applied internal plastering to reveals around the roof perimeter
- Installed concealed LED lighting into the framework
- Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, and surrounding areas
