Aluminium Patio Door

A residential property in Aylesbury required a new patio door to provide direct access to a private terrace. The existing door was outdated, draughty, and failed to connect the interior living space with the outdoors. The residents wanted a premium solution that would maximise natural light, offer secure terrace access, and deliver a dual-colour finish that would look striking from the garden while blending seamlessly with the interior décor. The goal was to install an aluminium patio door with a black exterior and white interior to achieve a bold external statement and a clean, bright internal aesthetic.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed a bespoke dual-colour aluminium patio doortailored to the terrace opening. Dual-colour powder coating allows different finishes on the internal and external faces of the same frame, delivering design flexibility without compromising on performance. The solution included:

• Aluminium casement patio door with two side-hung opening panels (active and passive leaves)
• Dual-colour finish: matt black (RAL 9005) externally for a bold, contemporary garden-facing appearance, and white (RAL 9010) internally to complement the interior décor
• Slim-profile aluminium frames for maximum glass area and unobstructed terrace views
• Thermally broken profiles to eliminate cold bridging and prevent condensation
• Double-glazed units with low-E coating and argon gas fill for superior thermal efficiency
• Multi-point locking system on the active leaf with anti-snap cylinders
• Heavy-duty stainless steel friction hinges with adjustable tension for smooth, controlled operation
• Low-threshold cill for step-free terrace access
• Concealed drop-down weather seals for superior draught protection
• Matching handles and hardware in the corresponding colour to each face for a fully cohesive finish

Installation Process

• Conducted a detailed site survey with precision laser measurements of the existing door opening
• Confirmed the dual-colour specification and ordering lead time with the residents
• Removed the old patio door and frame carefully to preserve surrounding brickwork and internal finishes
• Disposed of all waste materials responsibly
• Inspected and prepared the structural opening, lintel, and sub-cill
• Installed steel reinforcement where required to support the aluminium system
• Lifted the dual-colour aluminium door frame into position using precision packers and laser levels for perfect alignment
• Mechanically fixed the frame to the structure ensuring zero movement
• Hung both door panels on stainless steel friction hinges and adjusted for smooth operation
• Fitted double-glazed sealed units into both door panels
• Installed the multi-point locking mechanism on the active leaf and tested all locks
• Fitted flush bolts to the passive leaf top and bottom
• Applied internal and external silicone seals in matching colours for an airtight, watertight finish
• Adjusted hinges and handles for perfect alignment and smooth closing action
• Completed thorough clean of all glass, frames, handles, and surrounding areas
